You will be part of the Switching and Systems team at ABB Corporate Research in Västerås, Sweden. At Corporate Research we lead the innovation within ABB and our task is to ensure ABB's technology competitiveness now and, in the future. We work in close collaboration with other research centers, universities and our business areas, Electrification, Process Automation, Motion and Robotics & Discrete Automation.
In our creative and highly skilled team we develop, design, build and test new concepts and prototypes in the area of low and medium voltage switching apparatus, such as, contactors, breakers, fault current limiters and other protection devices. In the role of Scientist, you will report to the R&D Team Manager, working with and driving the execution of R&D projects. To be successful in this role you should have a positive and structured mindset, a solid technical background and great interest in utilizing our highly advanced simulation and experimental facilities.

Your responsibilities
Create, lead and execute R&D projects.
Perform electrical apparatus and system simulations.
Challenge conventional solutions and scout for new innovative concepts in the field of switching and systems.
Perform experimental verification in our laboratories.
Design, build and evaluate prototypes.
Prepare and present results to our stakeholders.
Develop and refine the digital offering of switching apparatus.

Your background
Preferably Licentiate or PhD in the areas of applied physics, electrical- systems or apparatus, or Master´s degree with several years of research experience in the same areas.
Prior experiences in switching apparatus (circuit breakers, disconnectors, load break switches, etc.) and/or electrical systems are preferred.
Experienced in design, testing and prototypes for proof-of-concept and performance validation of electrical apparatus related technologies and solutions.
Well familiar with electrical system simulations with PSCAD or DIgSILENT and multi-physics simulations.
Knowledge in measurements, control and performance optimization algorithms for intelligent switching apparatus.
Highly skilled in communicating in English (discussion, presentation, and reporting).
Good collaboration capabilities in a technical team and laboratory environment.
Personality wise, have strong team spirit and individual leadership to deliver expected results on time, on budget and with high quality.
Extensive experimental skills are highly valued, including prototyping, proof of concept testing, endurance testing, short circuit testing, etc
