Haldex has initiated a joint venture with VIE, the aim is to design, develop, produce, and sell electromechanical brake systems for commercial vehicles with an initial focus on the electric bus market in China.
As manufacturers and governments seek solutions to combat climate change, China is seen as taking a global lead in the market for fully electric commercial vehicles. Electromechanical brakes is expected to be a fast growing niche within this market, especially supported by the recent strong development of the electric bus segment on the Chinese market. The Chinese market for electrical buses is forecasted to grow by 47% between 2015 and 2020, to over 141,000 vehicles produced during 2020. The new technology will offer customers a simplified and cost effective brake system layout; independent from pneumatic energy, with reduction of noise, improved braking performance, and better passenger and driver comfort.
The software design engineer is responsible for developing parts of software for brake control, communication and motor control for the new electromechanical disc brake units and the associating system, as of the scope of Haldex-Vie strategy. The responsibility also includes to take part in developing systems, processes and procedures for efficient software design work within the team. The responsibility also includes to represent product development and to collaborate with business development in order to generate new business. The responsibility also includes to prepare and communicate technical system proposals with customers and to follow up on the same.
Key roles and responsibilities
• Designing software highly structured, efficiently and in compliance with requirements and for a cost effective and reliable product.
• Design, model, and initiate tests on prototype software.
• Produce specifications and describing documentation
• Execute the software development plan according to APQP and (H)PMM Development Process
• To develop systems, processes and procedures for efficient software design work
• Supporting the design verification and validation of the new product
• Technical benchmarking of competitor’s products and solutions
• Prepare and communicate technical system proposals with customers and to follow up on the same.
• Supporting in 8D problem solving if any warranty claims arises
• Interfaces within organization; Report and escalate proactively to Project manager and/or Software design lead
• Interface with suppliers and customer organization; Act as the voice of company towards the suppliers and customer
Product knowledge
• Applies a detailed level of knowledge and experience in software engineering to enable customer credibility and to be able to lead and guide the design of new products
• Applies a high level of vehicle system knowledge to understand customers need in features and performance in new products
• Applies a high level of product testing knowledge to ensure product verification and validation process will be thorough and complete
• Keep abreast of latest developments in software engineering and offer technical advice to Software Engineers and guidance in best practice.
• Champions transparency and compliance to TS16949, APQP, HPMM and yearly budget process
• Documents and reports the work
• Meet customer expectations and works for successful business implementation
Experience, Education, Skills, Knowledge Requirements
• Diploma, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in software engineering
• Embedded systems software development preferably with knowledge about motor control
• Software design for in-vehicle communication systems such as CAN or Flexray
• Product and process knowledge, commercial vehicles and/or automotive software
• Experience in deployment of MISRA guidelines
• Awareness of requirements in ISO 26262 and implementation of the same
• Experience with model-based design tools
• Strong real-time programming skills
• Strong ‘C’ and assembly code programming skills
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
• Experience in structured analysis and design techniques
• Experience with typical software design and maintenance tools
• Knowledge of ‘C++’ programming language and/or object-oriented design
• Effective, professional verbal and written communication skills
• Languages: English and preferably customer specific language
• Demonstrates and approaches challenges with a positive attitude
• Respectfully challenges all levels and functions within the organization
