Biomaterials Innovation team acts as a center of excellence in next generation of sustainable batteries. To develop and commercialize innovative carbon-based materials, derived from renewable biogenic resources, for sustainable batteries is the area we are very passionate about. The Biomaterials Innovation organization focuses on identifying business opportunities and developing new solutions in markets for renewable and bio-based materials, with a focus on carbon-based anode materials for Li-ion and Na-ion batteries.

YOU WILL
As a R&D Specialist Battery Technology, you will be part of the Lignode R&D Team and responsible for developing and driving ideas and solutions to develop new battery materials from a customer and application point of view.
You will play an important role and act as electrochemical expert, translating customer needs and requests into new test procedures. Designing and performing electrochemical analyses for and with the customer, developing new electrochemical methods, and guiding engineers and specialists.
Part of a multi-functional team you will aim for achieving project goals as a project leader as well as a project member.
Other responsibilities in the role:
- Design, conduct, and contribute to scientific research and development activities in the field of electrochemical energy storage, with a focus on carbon-based anode materials for Li-ion and Na-ion batteries.
- Take responsibility for scientific and technological progress; create innovative ideas and solutions to develop new materials and to optimize existing materials.
- Perform technical analysis of cell performance, including performance estimation/simulation for combinations of different anode and cathode materials, and analysis of electrode-electrolyte interactions.
- R&D project management, including planning and coordination of battery tests at cooperation partners and coordination of academic network.
- Support Business Development with expert technical know-how on batteries and battery materials during customer interactions; follow up on customer requests.
- Act as consultant for internal and external stakeholders and customers on battery materials, batteries, and battery applications.
- Monitor relevant technical and scientific literature.
YOU ARE
We are looking for a communicative team player with a high level of flexibility. To be a good match with the team you need to be creative, innovative and analytical. We think that you are passionate about working with new sustainable materials and processes in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced environment.
In order to succeed in this role, you need to have solid experience in R&D and Innovation and several years of practical track record in battery cell design and manufacturing, preferentially obtained at a battery cell manufacturer or OEM.
Your proficiency is based on a PhD degree in electrochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering – or comparable qualification.
Other core qualifications and skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge of materials and components for electrochemical energy storage, especially for Li-ion and Na-ion batteries, as well as with cell manufacturing and design.
- Comprehensive practical knowledge on typical electrochemical analysis methods for battery material characterization and performance and safety test protocols for battery cell testing.
- Project management experience.
We value a personal network in the energy storage research community, both academic and industrial. Practical and theoretical knowledge on the processing, properties, and testing of carbon-based battery materials is a benefit.
