This is an exciting and hands-on internship for students interested in developing skills related to the direct implementation of trade compliance programs, policies, and procedures to help ensure compliance with the government of the importer country, and exporter country, with respective import and export regulations. The main objectives include:
Protection of Human Health and Environment
Elimination of Hazardous exposure
Worker protection and Safety
Consumer protection and Safety
Accident Prevention
Resource Productivity and Recycling
Prevent and/or Eliminate hazardous operations and substances

Responsibilities
Provide regulatory interpretation and guidance on requirements of the regulation for various actors in supply-chain.
Provide regulatory interpretation and guidance in the case of Restrictive Trade Practices.
Case Studies of success and failures because of the imposition of technical regulation.
Perform research on international trade regulations and the overseas market(s).
Create country-specific Regulatory briefs on identified sectoral regulation for the key markets.
Draft summaries of current trade and compliance issues for buyers and suppliers.
Develop and maintain customized compliance programs and processes specific needs of actors in supply-chain.
Conduct audits to assess the export/import compliance of actors in supply-chain and identifying corrective actions and assess its implementation to assess the impact of non-compliance.
Develop tools to ease compliance management.
Gather and provide detailed analysis and information which may financially impact sourcing decisions from a target country – due to compliance requirements in sourcing country.
Identify opportunities for actors in the supply chain to gain from the compliance requirements with a specific sectoral regulation.
Interpreting and complying with federal, and international, regulations, and legislation.
Continuously evaluate current processes and recommend relevant changes or improvements to increase efficiency/productivity.



Education/Experience Requirement and Types of Internship
Academics Internship Projects: (3 months, 4 months, and 6 months)
Undergraduate Student Project (Bachelor’s) – any discipline in Science, Engineering, Policy & Law, Business Management (or equivalent).
Graduate Student Project (Master’s) – any discipline in Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, Policy & Law, Business Management (or equivalent).

Non-Academics Internship projects (3 months, 6 months, and 9 months):
Candidates that have passed Master’s in a relevant discipline and have not yet started employment, and would like to gain experience, may apply for a short-term project,


Required Skills:
Strong work ethic, ability to work individually as well as in a team, take initiative, and the ability to manage projects.
Self-motivated, self-sufficient, analytical, trustworthy, and detail-oriented are vital qualities.
Adept with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
