ESS is now looking for two Remote Handling (RH) Technicians for the Target Operations and Maintenance Group. The group is responsible for developing the documentation, processes and plans for the integrated testing, verification and validation of the Target Station systems, in preparation for the commissioning and initial operations focused on the Active Cells Facility (ACF). This role will include the generation of documentation, assembly supervision, operation and maintenance of a wide range of specialist, remote, ‘in-cell’ electromechanical equipment such as: Tele manipulators, Cranes, Cutting tools, Handling equipment, Inspection devices, Casks and Welding
This gives ESS the capability to fulfil the RH challenges related to maintenance over the project's lifetime. For the person appointed into this role ESS will provide training and skills development.
Job description
Your main areas of responsibilities as a Remote Handling (RH) Technician will include, but not be limited to:
• Prepare assembly procedures/ risk assessments and method statements, to hold readiness review prior to task and to undertake the assembly, commissioning and rebuild activities.
• Be responsible for the ownership, the operation and working environment of numerous specialist RH equipment in the Active Cells Facility (ACF) as well as ensuring the safe operation of that equipment.
• Carryout maintenance activities – maintaining complex electromechanical equipment to a high standard of precision and cleanliness.
• Support and lead maintenance activities – highlighting any areas of inconsistency ensuring RH equipment is assembled and maintained as originally designed to maximise equipment reliability.
• Support new assembly activities – work with engineering and technical staff to highlight any design or manufacturing issues during assembly, offer technical support and solutions to rectify issues.
• Responsible for RH equipment maintenance documentation – creation of new and editing of existing technical documentation related to RH equipment, ensure all equipment to be maintained and secure that procedures are up to date.
• Support/define general manufacturing/workshop deliverables e.g. high standard of accuracy and finish for tasks such as turning, milling, fitting, fabrication etc.
• Work alongside the rigging team to plan maintenance operations for the 100/115T High Bay crane (out cell).
The role will involve working in Radiation controlled areas, all necessary training, equipment; including full-face respirator and registration for this will be provided by ESS. As part of this role ESS will provide the intend candidate the opportunity to participate and get training for a number of months in collaboration with the JET (Joint European Torus) including regular onsite visits at the world class facility ran by our collaborator RACE (Remote Application in Challenging Environments), UKAEA (UK Atomic Energy Authority), Culham Science Centre, UK.
Qualifications:
To be a successful candidate you should be a SQEP'd (Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person) for the position, including the following required experiences and skills:
• A Senior Technician or equivalent with
• At least 5 years’ experience working as a technician in an engineering environment.
• Experienced in managing tasks in an industrial environment with formal work control.
• Qualified and experienced in the safe operation of conventional workshop machine tools.
• Experienced with and working to European and International Engineering and Nuclear Specific Codes & Standards, Lifting and Lifting Operations Codes of Practice, The Machinery Directive, etc.
• Have a proven capability of working from detailed drawings and schematics.
• Experienced in test phases or ‘putting equipment to work’.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including MS Excel and MS Word.
• Experience in generation of formal maintenance documentation
• Ability to co-operate and work as a part of a multinational team.
• Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite and the ability to communicate in Swedish would be beneficial.
Beneficial experience includes:
• Operation of RH equipment, however, special training shall be provided.
• Manipulation of Virtual Reality models (e.g. VR4Robots, RHOVR or ROS2) would be beneficial however training will be provided.
• Operating wire saw/bandsaw/CNC programs
• Working in a remote or nuclear environment
• Troubleshooting control (e.g. PLC) logic

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
