Research assistant

Arbetsbeskrivning

Welcome to Linnaeus University! A place for knowledge, ideas and development. For growth potential and a belief in the future. In Småland and in the world.

The Department of Mathematics has its placement in the Faculty of Engineering. The department has about 25 employees, of which 10 researchers and 3 doctoral students and provides teaching, research and development. The environment in mathematics is lively with specialization in mathematical physics (wave modeling, quantum information and quantum probability), classical and quantum stochastic processes, p-adic analysis, number theory and dynamical systems (deterministic and random) with applications to cryptography, biology and cognition, quantum probabilistic modeling of cognition and decision making, financial mathematics, insurance and statistics.

We are now loking for a Research assistant in applications of quantum probability for modeling of cognition.

Description of the position

The classical and quantum stochastics group at the Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Technology, Department of Physics and Electrical Engineering at Linnaeus University invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in applications of quantum probability for modeling of cognition. Linnaeus University provides an international and dynamic environment for the training of young researchers and the research group in classical and quantum stochastics actively works in pure theory and applications.

The successful candidate will be based in the Växjö campus, and will work on applications of quantum probability for modeling of cognition and especially decision making processes with possible applications to psychology in cooperation with classical and quantum stochastics research group of the Department of Mathematics. The successful candidate will also be involved in supervision of bachelor and master students.

The position is limited to four months of full time. The contract can start immediately. Participation of women in research is encouraged. The position is located in Växjö Sweden.

Requirements
The eligibility requirements are a Ph.D. in Mathematics or Physics (Mathematical or Quantum). The applicant must have completed her/his Ph.D. studies no more than seven years before the application deadline.

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential.

The applicant is assumed to have the ability to conduct research within the described area, with demonstrated skills to generate new ideas and innovate.

Interpersonal skills and flexibility are of great importance since the work is done in a research group having an extended network of international cooperation.

Relative importance of assessment criteria
Documented background and experience in the proposed research area are advantageous. Research track record including minimum of three peer-reviewed research publications is required; stronger publication history a plus.

The applicant has to be ready to work on applications of the mathematical apparatus of quantum physics outside of it, especially to problems of quantum information/probability modeling of cognition and decision making.

Special importance will be attachedto Ph.D. in Mathematics or Physics (Mathematical and Quantum) and good publication history.

The applicant ability to conduct research within the described area, with demonstrated skills to generate new ideas and innovate is also of high importance.
