Department of Oncology and Pathology has a broad focus in research areas of cancer development, progression and treatment against cancer.
Our mission is to improve diagnostics, treatment and quality of life for patients with cancer. The purpose of this research project is to contribute in creating novel therapeutic approaches to overcome resistance to anti-cancer therapy in pediatric acute lymphocytic leukemia. The task is to target molecular pathways that promote resistance to therapy and the goal is to create novel therapeutic combination modalities.
Your mission
Your mission will be to perform experimental work on leukemia cell lines and primary leukemic cells from patients with a use of cell and molecular biology techniques such as cell culture and drug treatments, colony formation and cell viability measurements, preparation of RNA and proteins, RT-PCR and Western blotting. Primary cell isolation from whole blood will be also routinely used as a part of primary cell collection in line with Ethical permission. Knowledge of Power Point, Excel and statistical programs is required. You will be responsible for data analysis and presentation of the results. You need to be able to handle purchases, plan the orders and be in contact with collaborators to fully support your own experimental work.
Your profile
You are M.Sc. in Biological sciences, Biomedicine, Molecular or Cellular biology and have experience of laboratory work. The group is small and the position is limited to 6 months with a good chance to stay an additional 6 months, and therefore you need to have an experience of mentioned above techniques and duties to be able to work independently in the lab. Previous experience working with cancer cells and especially primary cancer cells from patients, as well as cytotoxic drugs, is an advantage for this position. Excellent ability to speak and write in English is a prerequisite for this work.
