Department of Plant Breeding
The Department of Plant Breeding teaches and performs strategic and applied research on horticultural and agricultural crops with the aim to provide knowledge, tools, and products for a bio-based economy, improved environment, and human health. In the plant breeding division, we use a wide range of both conventional and modern breeding technologies, ranging from field experiments and evaluation of genetic diversity to genetic, omics, biotechnological, biochemical, and physiological approaches.
Duties
The department is currently conducting research on a number of crops that are important for the future of agriculture in Sweden and globally. The person who obtains this position will assist a number of researchers working at the department to independently conduct various kinds of practical activities under supervision, such as molecular biological and biochemical analyses, cultivation and care of plants in greenhouses, phenotyping in the field (including drone operation and drone image analysis), and plant pathological work such as cultivation and maintenance of fungal cultures. These tasks also include the development of genomic tools and resources for use in plant breeding work.
Qualifications
The person we are looking for should preferably have a degree in biology, biotechnology, or genetics and plant breeding at a Master's level. Experience in experimental activities and drone operation in field, in combination with laboratory work, is an advantage. Candidates with knowledge in plant care and experience in plant pathological work are encouraged to apply. It is also important that you have an easy time collaborating with different people and functions within the entire department.
