We are looking for a Research assistant in Biomedicine for a 50% position for 24 months at the school of medical sciences.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the single largest contributor of mortality and morbidity worldwide. During influenza epidemics more people die from CVD causes than during non-epidemic periods. This is thought to be due to a range of factors including dysregulated inflammatory response, disruption of atherosclerotic plaque and an excessive influx of immune cells, which can be detrimental to both occluded coronary artery and myocardial tissue.
The overall aim of the project is to investigate the molecular mechanism underlying influenza-induced cardiac pathogenesis.
Duties and responsibilities
The appointment as a research assistant is intended to enable persons who have recently been awarded their Master degree in biomedicine, to consolidate and develop primarily their research skills. The applicant will be involved in formulating and testing the scientific hypothesis with experimental work, presentations, and preparation of publications. The applicant will be responsible for research, academic and administrative activities and expected to adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques, test hypothesis, and analyse data from a variety of sources.
The applicant will work on in vitro experiments conducted with primary cell cultures including endothelial cells, vascular smooth muscle cells, co-culture system and stem cell differentiation. Basic technical skills like cell culture, confocal microscopy, ELISA, Western blot, RT-qPCR, flow cytometry etc is a requirement. Knowledge of working with vascular inflammation, human leukocytes and lymphocytes will be added advantage. This study will be conducted in close collaboration with two Swedish companies in the life science sector.
Qualifications
The person we are looking for has awarded a Master degree in a subject matter relevant for the position or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a Master degree.
The candidate should have proven knowledge and skills in vascular biology, immunology and cell biology. In-depth knowledge and experience in cell culture, and various cellular and molecular biology techniques is required. The candidate should be well organised and have the ability of strategic thinking. Good soft skills and cooperative attitude are essential as the applicant will work in collaboration with other researchers and business partners. Accurate and timely documentation of experimental work performed is a must. The ability to initiate and maintain networks to long-term collaboration is highly appreciated. Competence in both written and oral communication of research in English is a prerequisite for the position. In addition, personal suitability will be a factor in the selection process.
