Field of subject for the appointment: Ecology
Location, until further notice: Kalmar
Scope of appointment: 60%, with the opportunity of higher scope. Start date of the role: September – October 2016. The appointment covers 2 years, with the possibility of extension.

Job description:
The duties comprise computer-based research within microbial evolutionary ecology focusing on analysis of nucleotide and proteomic data from marine bacterial communities or cultured microorganisms isolated from natural environments. Analysis of functional capacity in the form of, for example, metabolic reaction pathways will comprise one of the main duties. An interest in all areas of projects, from experiment planning to publication, is of great importance. You are expected to conduct own research, but also develop methodology for other researchers within the Linnaeus University Centre for Ecology and Evolution in Microbial model Systems (EEMiS) as well as supervise doctoral students within both computer-based analyses and writing research articles. The work also involves strategic planning of computer-based resources for the further development of EEMiS within the area.

The appointment includes opportunities for educational career-development, including teaching at first cycle, second cycle and Master’s level within, for example, microbiology, microbial genomics and bioinformatics. You are also expected to participate in the work on applying for external research funds.

Requirements – appointment career-development
Those with a doctoral degree in molecular biology, microbiology, evolutionary biology or equivalent or those who have acquired the equivalent scientific competence are qualified for appointment. Primarily applicants should have gained a doctoral degree or achieved corresponding competence no more than seven years before the application deadline. (Chapter 4, §12a of the Higher Education Ordinance)

Assessment grounds
Documented research competence within bioinformatics, microbial ecology and evolutionary biology comprise the most important assessment grounds for the role. Experience of genome, transcriptome and proteomic analysis of individual bacterial species as well as natural bacterial communities are useful qualifications. Experience of teaching and supervision of students in bioinformatics analyses within microbial systems, as well as experience of experiment planning are also useful qualifications. We are searching for a person with good cooperation skills who is keen to take initiative for cooperation within research and teaching, both locally and internationally.  Good communication skills in written and verbal English are necessary.

The overall assessment of competence focuses particularly on an assessment of the applicant’s potential of a successful career as a teacher and researcher.
