Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management
The Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management is part of Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and Plant Production Science. The research and teaching within the department is conducted within 4 thematic Subject areas: Urban landscape design, Landscape planning, Urban landscape governance and administration as well as vegetation building. The research and teaching the department is multidisciplinary and includes the humanities, social sciences, science, design and engineering. The institution consists of about 80 employees active in teaching and or research and development.
The subject area Design of Urban Landscapes promotes design as an indispensable conceptual and technical activity for steering the transformation of contemporary urban landscapes. Our objects of study range from large-scale metropolitan structures, processes and practices, to small-scale urban situations, objects and mere materials. We are committed to teaching and research, and aim at generating action-oriented knowledge for today’s societal challenges.
Duties:
We are seeking a research assistant to work in the newly established Surroundings Lab. The position offered is focused on assisting the delivery of a research publication project as well as supporting the development of the surrounding lab community. The research publication will present surroundings as a concept and film as a methodology for an international audience. The tasks will include writing, editing work, as well as production of pedagogic examples of landscape film applications, for the support of the concept and methodology development. Additional teaching tasks may prolong the period. The project is led by SLU Assistant Senior Lecturer Mads Farsö.

The research assistant will be responsible for the following:


• Assist in gathering, reviewing, and summarizing relevant contemporary scientific literature on landscape representation & design.
• Reading, correcting and qualifying a monography manuscript for international, peer-review publication. Subject is surroundings and landscape representation methods, with a primary focus on film.
• Conceptualising, developing and delivering additional audio-visual representation material that can support the pedagogical and methodological dimensions of the publication.
• Envisioning, drafting and illustrating the conceptual lay out for the publication and its online presence/accessibility to methodological film examples.
• Supporting, developing and managing the surrounding lab community homepage and possible community gatherings.
• Offering assistance & teaching at the Department of Landscape Architecture, Planning and Management.

 

Qualifications:
We are seeking a motivated research assistant in Landscape Architectural Representation & Design who is organized and reliable, with exceptional attention to detail, language and conceptualisation. Our ideal candidate has personal drive and strong interest in research, is responsible, independent, and good at problem-solving. Good collaborative ability is very important, as are good written, oral and visual communication skills.

Requirements:


• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or related fields
• Experience with artistic research
• Ability to effectively communicate and write in English.

Additional merits:


• Demonstrate experience and research insights in various representation methods and methodologies
• Expertise in editing, lay out and research publication writings.
• Experience with teaching landscape architecture representation and design studios

Form of employment:
Fixed term employment of 2 months, with possible extension.

Extent:
50 % of full time

Starting date:
May 1st 2020 or according to agreement.
