Research associate in Biomedical Engineering

at the Department of Biomedical Engineering (IMT)

Duties: The position as research associate involves teaching, research and administration. It is also the research associates responsibility to follow developments in his/her own area and developments in society that may be significant for the position.

The research associate will primarily work in the field of neuro-engineering with bio-optical and bio-electrical methods, models and theories applied towards functional and stereotactic neurosurgery and neurology. The research associate will together with the researchers in the group, develop and strengthen the research direction and initiate and perform new projects. The work also includes supervising and teaching at the international MSc program in biomedical engineering and at graduate level. Furthermore the position includes administrative duties. It is required that the research assistant applies for and receives research grants.

Qualifications: A doctoral degree or an equivalent degree is required for the position. Precedence will be given to those who have been awarded their Ph.D. no more than five years before the application deadline.

Grounds for assessment:

In filling the position of research associate, importance will be given to such scientific, pedagogical, administrative and other skills, which are deemed to be of importance with respect to the character and academic content of the post. In addition, leadership and organisation skills as well as the ability to interact with society and to communicate research and development results will be considered.

For this position of research associate emphasis will be placed on scientific proficiency.

The work is interdisciplinary and requires good skills in experimental and theoretical bio-optics as well as ability to work in a clinical environment with researchers nationally and internationally. Experience from brain stimulation methods or technical systems and theories used in functional and stereotactic neurosurgery or neurology is a merit.

Scientific proficiency should be demonstrated by high-quality research prior to and after the defence of the doctoral thesis. This includes planning and conducting research projects as well as publishing the research findings and disseminating the findings to the public. Scientific proficiency can also be indicated by cooperation with other researchers, preferably in several countries.

Teaching skills should be demonstrated by broad-based and in-depth ability in the area of the position.

Administrative skills should be demonstrated through experience of developing and managing activities and personnel and the ability to cooperate.

Appointment procedure, period of appointment: Appointment will be made by the Rector as advised by the Appointments Board.

Successful applicants will be employed for two years with the possibility of an extension. The maximum period of employment is four years.
