Arbetsbeskrivning
EnginZyme is a Swedish start-up founded in 2014 that is building the most general yet most efficient platform for chemical production that the world has ever seen. That’s a big claim, but we can stand behind it. Our platform combines the breadth and power of nature (enzymatic cascades) with the efficiency of the chemical industry (packed bed reactors) in a best-of-both-worlds technological solution.
Our technology gives us a unique position from which to address many challenges facing the chemical industry in the 21st century. In particular, our ambition is to play a key role in tackling climate change — both by accelerating the industry’s transition to sustainability, and by innovating solutions for other industries through novel chemical products.
We’re funded by well-known investors and employ some of the best researchers in their respective fields. We’re building an industry-leading company for the long-term and want to invite you to come along for the journey. Read more about us here: https://bit.ly/3j84JNu
What you’ll do
Process development is central to our mission. Historically, many companies using enzymatic methods of production have focused too much on the enzymes and not enough on the process. We turn that around — having an easily scalable, efficient process with high space-time yield is the true differentiator in the field. In your work on scaling up biocatalytic reactors and assisting in the process development of separation unit operations, you will be core to that objective.
Key tasks and responsibilities in this role are:
Perform research and development in collaboration with other senior researchers for various projects.
Support in the design, construction, commissioning, and operation of new lab and pilot plant facilities for upstream and downstream unit operations.
Support lab scale-up and pilot plant activities, including data collection to validate the design of novel chemical processes.
Ensure reproducible and accurate lab results – the key to good science.
Investigate, create, and develop new methods and technologies for project advancement.
Work alongside chemical engineers, chemists, enzymologists, and automation engineers. Sometimes you may act as principal investigator in conducting own experiments.
Work-up and analysis of samples by various analytical methods.
Contribute to the creation of a positive workplace ethic with a strong emphasis on teamwork and safety.
The position is based in Stockholm and may include some traveling for development and training purposes.
Who you are
You have a strong technical background (MSc) in Chemical, Biochemical, or Mechanical Engineering and you have a minimum of 2 years of practical experience in a laboratory environment of a relevant field. You can demonstrate experience building and setting up lab and/or pilot plant equipment and are familiar with different types of laboratory and industrial fittings.
You thrive with rapid changing environments and the laboratory is your favourite place of work. You have experience working with various reaction and separation technologies, as well as analytical techniques such as GC, HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS and TGA/DSC. You understand the importance of accurate, reproducible research techniques.
You are also comfortable working with hazardous materials such as acids/alkalis, special gases and volatile chemicals and understand the associated Health and Safety aspects associated to your work.
In terms of personal qualities, we’re looking for someone who:
Has a passion for what they do. Someone who has found their calling — the kind of person who thinks about process engineering in the shower.
Gets things done. A self-disciplined, hard-working doer.
Doesn’t settle. Someone who pushes the envelope — overdelivers, goes out of their comfort zone, resists stagnation.
Is agreeable. A warm, cooperative, and friendly person.
If this describes you, you’ll fit in with the rest of the team!
What we can offer you
The opportunity to be part of something big and important.
Getting to advance state-of-the-art technology.
To work with world-class researchers on problems at the frontier of the field.
Competitive salary and equity in the company.
Start-up mentality. No red tape, lots of responsibility and ownership.
A friendly, multi-cultural, tight-knit group employing people from all over the world. On our team of 26 we today have Brits, Bolivians, Germans, Norwegians, Brazilians, Spaniards, Nigerians, Argentinians, Russians, and Mexicans — actual Swedes are a minority!
An environment where you’re free — and expected — to continuously learn and grow.
One of the best cities in the world to live and work, and we offer relocation support and help you get set up. But don't take our word for the quality of life in Stockholm
