The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences.
Division
The position of research coordinator is announced by Aging Research Center (ARC). ARC conducts research in psychology, sociology, and various branches of medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, and geriatrics). Since 2018, ARC has the responsibility to build and develop a National E-infrastructure for Aging Research (NEAR) with the ultimate scope to facilitate aging research in Sweden, foster international collaboration, and enhance the quality and impact of scientific research.
Karolinska Institutet and six other Swedish Universities are involved in the infrastructure. NEAR include 15 databases derived from longitudinal cohort studies located in different geographical areas in Sweden. NEAR aims also to implement international collaborations with other centers hosting databases. One of the recently developed collaboration is with the FONDAZIONE PIERA, PIETRO E GIOVANNI FERRERO (Fondazione Ferrero), Alba (CN), Italy (https://www.fondazioneferrero.it/index.php?lang=EN). Fondazione Ferrero hosts a database (Healthy Aging) derived from an intervention carried out by the Foundation since 1983 and consisting of health monitoring, physical activity and recreational activities.
Your mission
The selected candidate will work within the frame of the collaboration between NEAR and Fondazione Ferrero with the ultimate goal to optimize the accessibility of the Healthy Aging database as well as to develop the scientific utilization. Your daily work will be a mix of system development, maintenance of existing systems, data documentation, and data analysis. In detailed you will be responsible of the following task:
- Reorganization of the platform for data collection.
- Cleaning, maintenance, and documentation of the dataset.
- Enrichment of the Healthy Aging project in terms of: a) study design; b) protocol and data collection; c) linkage with health care data from local hospitals and primary care physicians; and d) statistical analyses.
- Organization of scientific events (e.g. kick-off meeting, and workshop).
Your profile
We are looking for you who are highly collegial and able to work well in a cross-disciplinary team as well as having the ability to work independently. The applicant must also possess good organizational skills, attention to detail, and analytical skills. The successful candidate is expected (1) to hold a bachelor degree in medical science; (2) to have experience of working with epidemiological data in the field of geriatric epidemiology; (3) to have experience in database management and data handling with Stata or other statistical software; (4) to demonstrate good oral and written communication skills in English and Italian.
