Research coordinator in Applied Immunology & Immunotherapy

Arbetsbeskrivning

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
The successful candidate will work in the https://www.

cmm.ki.se/web/guest/robert-harris-group group headed by Prof Robert Harris. The group is a part of the Karolinska Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis (KNIMS) center which gathers around 40 researchers working on different aspects of the pathogenesis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and other neurodegenerative diseases, including study of genetics, epidemiology, immunology and epigenetics, with excellent clinical cohorts and experimental models. The Applied Immunology & Immunotherapy group is physically located at the http://www.cmm.ki.se, a translational medical centre with ~500 researchers working on complex diseases, and with extensive national and international collaborations. The Applied Immunology & Immunotherapy group studies why chronic neurodegenerative diseases occur, and then devise ways to prevent or treat them, applying a range of molecular immunological techniques, experimental models and patient cohorts.

Your mission
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease that affects motor neurons, and for which there is currently no treatment or cure. Identifying factors that contribute to this disease is a major research goal within our group in order to be able to develop an appropriate immunotherapy to target those factors. We are particularly interested in the role of the vasculature in early pathogenesis.

We are looking for a senior postdoctoral researcher with good knowledge of both experimental and human ALS, who also has expertise within vascular biology. The individual will develop and maintain a web resource for ALS transcriptomic data, identify biomarkers and develop a stratification system for patients into distinct subgroups based on comparative analysis of multiple omics and phenotypic data. The work will include design of analysis, data processing, quality control, statistical analyses, data interpretation and presentation of findings in the form of scientific publications, grant applications and at meetings and conferences. The individual is expected to oversee organization of research projects conducted by other postdocs and PhD students.

The candidate is expected to interact with many collaborators at KI and externally and to contribute to the efficient functioning of the unit. We offer a very stimulating and welcoming working environment in a unit of motivated co-workers with diverse competencies.

Your profile
The successful candidate should have:

- A PhD in molecular biology or bioinformatics with at least 7 years working experience.
- Documented experience with preclinical drug experiments using ALS animal models.
- Substantial transcriptomics expertise in life sciences
- Excellent analytical and quantitative skills
- Documented research experience of complex data analysis
- Excellent knowledge of statistics
- Experience and competence in scientific computing including skills in at least one programing language (preferably R)
- Ability to deliver high-quality scientific outputs with a strong publication record
- High level of demonstrable communication skills
- Ability to work independently and take own initiatives
- Documented international collaborative clinical network is a strong plus.

We will look favorably upon if the candidate has experiences in one or more of the following areas:

- Vascular biology
- ALS
- Database management

The candidate should also have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently but also as a part of a large team. Good knowledge of spoken and written English and good communication skills are also required. Experience with writing scientific papers is required and experience with writing grant applications would be an advantage.
