Research Engineer

Research Engineer

Arbetsbeskrivning

Do you want to be involved in driving the development of the future's pelletizing processes and product concepts? Do you also have a university degree in science or technology? Great, now you can belong to a business that aims to create an environmentally friendly, CO2‐free production of highly refined products!
LKAB manufactures the world's most climate-efficient iron ore pellets at the mines in Malmberget, Svappavaara and Kiruna, and now we want to become even better with your help. Our goal is to create CO2-free production of highly refined products with maximum utilization of today's residual products with minimal emissions to air and water. LKAB has used models to design, construct and optimize its pellet plants for a long time. This is a continuous effort since our goal is that the future of LKAB will have more efficient and climate-neutral processes. The research center in Malmberget has an Agglomeration Laboratory that enables studies on the phenomena that control the pellet process (agglomeration, oxidation, sintering and reduction). In the area, we now need to strengthen the team with a research engineer.
We’re therefore looking for you who want to work as a research engineer in pelletizing.
The work is assignment-based and much of it is conducted experimentally on a laboratory scale and with pilot trials. You will be part of a group working on the combustion and oxidation of magnetite pellets and their subsequent reduction. The work is carried out to some extent independently but also together with interdisciplinary teams. Your duties involve performing laboratory experiments and transferring data into equations and models describing the oxidation, sintering and reduction of iron ore. Participation in pilot-scale trials is also part of the work. Does it sound interesting? Then we look forward to your application!
It is expected that you can work with different programming languages and that you are willing to learn about new modelling tools. It is also expected that you can perform experiments using systematic methodology for planning and analysing the results. You will also be responsible for operating equipment at high temperatures and with flammable gases.
With us, there are plenty of challenges, which motivates us! You will be surrounded by interested and experienced colleagues who contribute their knowledge to others. We aim to have a welcoming, curious, accepting, and open climate. That is why we are looking for you who are motivated but also develop in such an atmosphere.
The position is in Malmberget.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have a higher education, a master’s degree, or similar, in materials, metallurgy, chemistry or mechanical engineering or in related fields such as physics and chemistry. Experience of modelling hardening, oxidation or reduction of iron ore pellets is advantageous.
We are curious both about you with long experience in the industry or you who are a recent graduate. Above all, we are looking for you with enthusiasm for improving processes in LKAB and who wants to learn new things.
It is important that you can work independently and committedly. You need to have good writing and communicative skills since the results are mainly delivered in the form of written reports and presentations.
The role includes creating or forming part of networks internally within LKAB as well as externally with mainly universities, research institutes and suppliers. Good knowledge of English is therefore a requirement.
For all our services, a driving license with qualification B is required.
