SweTree Technologies AB (www.swetree.com) is built on a unique collaboration of cutting edge scientists from five universities in Sweden working with biology, biotechnology and chemistry of plants which gives STT access to unique scientific results and development resources. Added to this we have STT?s own development department with laboratories in Umeå and Uppsala with 30 employees. Our operations have developed well during 15 years and we experience a continued increased interest in our technologies. Our four technology areas include improved and more environmentally friendly uptake of nutrition in plants, production methods for using somatic embryogenesis for production of trees, elite clones of poplar and a broad biotechnology base for increased survival, growth and improved wood quality in the forest. The section of SweTree technologies in Uppsala primarily focus on biotechnology-based propagation of elite trees. The current effort is focused on starting up the industrial scale in vitro propagation system for trees. The propagation process involves large scale production of mature somatic embryos in a liquid-based bioreactor system, harvest of the mature embryos, and several steps to establish plants for delivery to forestry nurseries.
