Your team
The macromolecular crystallography (MX) group is responsible for the two beamlines BioMAX and MicroMAX and the fragment screening facility FragMAX, all supporting structural biology research aiming at understanding biology at a molecular level with applications in drug development and biotechnology.

The MX group consists of around 15 persons.



Would you like to work at the brightest lightsource in the world?



MAX IV are looking for an engineer who will maintain and develop the beamline instrumentation at BioMAX and MicroMAX. You will work with the other members of the BioMAX and MicroMAX teams to make sure the beamlines are functioning and ready to serve the research conducted by our users. You will take care of daily duties such as checking equipment status, fixing minor issues, do regular maintenance and also be involved in different development projects. You will work in a complex technical environment, but your skills will be complemented by the skills of others in the group and by other groups at MAX IV. You are expected to be part of the on-call service for the beamlines during maximum one week per month. You will work in a group of friendly, curious and skillful staff with different backgrounds.  


Your main work tasks will be

- Verify and test equipment functionality during the weekly commissioning time.
- Take care of daily support tasks such as making sure that liquid nitrogen is available for the users.
- Solve issues with the equipment, independently and in collaboration with other staff.
- Take part in development projects and be responsible for these when suitable.
- Contribute to developing the beamline software by for example writing scripts automating different tasks
- Be part of the on-call support of users


To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications

- You have a Bachelors degree or equivalent in physics or engineering, and/or significant experience with maintaining scientific instrumentation.
- Knowledge and experience of instrumentation such as electronics or motion systems
- Basic knowledge of programming
- You are able to communicate fluently and effectively in English with both speaking and writing.

- Knowledge of synchrotrons and x-ray experiments
- Experience of working with vacuum or cryo equipment

MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light.
