Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Department of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Public Health, Uppsala Research Engineer Position Development of Novel Methods for Virus Detection and Characterization with particular emphasize on the diagnostic challenges imposed by climate changes, emerging new pathogens and increased zoonotic threats The faculty is the only faculty in Sweden with a specific responsibility for teaching and research in veterinary medicine and animal science.The research and education aim to promote the health and well-being of animals as well as humans and to develop a biologically and economically sustainable animal management.www.slu.se The Department of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Public Health (BVF) is part of the faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science and consists of the units for Immunology, Bacteriology and Food Safety, Parasitology, Virology, Pathology, Pharmacology and Toxicology.The activities of the department include education and research in veterinary public health and extend from practical laboratory diagnostics and combating of infectious diseases to studies of the detailed mechanisms behind diseases.The department provides a good working environment for research and development with the aim to develop advanced molecular tools to address important diagnostic problems as well as virological questions on a more fundamental level.Applications are invited for a one-year term () research engineer position at the Joint Research and Development Division of the Virology Departments of SLU and the National Veterinary Institute (SVA).The position may be extended one year.The work is based in the laboratory and concerns modern molecular biology techniques.The applicant should be proficient in molecular biotechnology.Experience in diagnostic development and pathogen discovery methods is an asset.The research will focus primarily on novel sequencing based methods for virus discovery and complemented with microarray work for multiplex diagnostics and discovery research. Development and application of novel methods for the detection of emerging "unknown" viruses will be an important task of the research engineer.We are looking for a colleague with proven capacity and skills in molecular methodology development. The applicant should have an educational background in biotechnology.A good knowledge of molecular virology and modern microbiology techniques is an advantage.The candidate must be capable of working independently in the laboratory as well as possess good interpersonal skills.A good command of the English language is required.The application should include a cover letter, CV, references and publication record.SLU is an equal opportunity employer.
