Research Engineer GTC – Solid Mechanics
We are looking for a Research Engineer in the area of Solid Mechanics to be part of the development of the engine structures and new technologies required by the next generation of jet engines.
You will become a key player in the design of these components by giving input during the design development and assessing feasibility and requirement compliance of the design in the field of solid mechanics. You will also help us meet the challenge of an increase share of additive manufacturing in our products. In addition, you will contribute to improve our analysis methods and tools.
Candidate profile
You are a mechanical engineer with knowledge and experience in solid mechanics CAE (structural analysis, fatigue, fracture mechanics, dynamic analysis of structures). You can be either a senior engineer with many years of experience or a junior engineer who has been working in the field for a shorter time. You are interested in working in aerospace and you are a problem solver who thrives when working in multidisciplinary teams where you can take part of the big picture and bring your expertise to full use.
Key responsibilities
Work in multidisciplinary teams engaged in the design and development of engine structures and new technologies.
Support concept generation and selection.
Dimensioning and verification of engine components through FE analysis (strength, fatigue, fracture mechanics, dynamic analysis) using both commercial and in-house developed tools
Develop analysis methods.
Ensure proper documentation of technical results and present the results internally and externally.
Contribute to the development of GKN as a 'Great Place to Work', aligned with the core principles - safe, innovative, open & honest, care & respect, and ownership.
Qualifications / Skills / Experience
Qualifications:
Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Professional experience as CAE engineer
Skills and Experience:
Knowledge and experience in strength, fatigue (LCF, HCF) and dynamic simulations of large assemblies.
Good knowledge of FEA commercial tools, preferably ANSYS Mechanical (APDL), ANSYS Workbench, LS-Dyna.
General engineering knowledge of metallic materials and manufacturing processes.
Experience in programming. Knowledge of Python is advantageous
Fluent in English and Swedish
Desirable:
Experience in the analysis and design of bearings and bearing housings.
Experience in dynamical analysis of rotating machinery
Experience in aeromechanical analysis
Experience in topology-optimization (using OptiStruct preferably)
Experience in technology development and TRL-scale.
Type of employment: Permanent full-time
Place of employment and travel requirements: This position is based in Trollhättan. Travel to other locations within Sweden as well as EU, UK and eventually US is expected.
