MAX IV Laboratory has operated successfully for more than 30 years and runs the new MAX IV synchrotron facility in Lund. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, from Sweden and the rest of the world. They will do research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. 200 people are currently employed at the MAX IV Laboratory.
MAX IV, inaugurated June 2016, is the largest and most ambitious Swedish investment in national research infrastructure and the brightest source of X-rays worldwide. MAX IV Laboratory is hosted by Lund University.
Tasks
We are now looking for a Research Engineer for the MAX IV facility.
You will be part of our SAM team and carry out tasks related to alignment, stability and metrology. . In near future focus will be on practical alignment tasks.
The tasks include:
- Preparing alignment files based on CAD model data in Spatial Analyzer (SA).
- Manual alignment of accelerator and beamline components.
- Design, manual installation, and adjustment of (geodetic) reference networks.
- Measurements using laser trackers, measuring arms (portable CMMs), theodolites, interferometers, autolevels, and various vibration measurement tools.
- Analysis of measurement data.
Depending on background and interests of the candidate the following optional tasks may apply:
- Assembly of sensitive optical components.
- Building deformation analysis.
- Finite element analysis.
- Quality control of optical components.
- Instrument checks and calibration.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate has a Master of Science (or equivalent) in physics or some suitable field of engineering. Knowledge or experience related to precision alignment, mechanics, statistical analysis, and/or metrology is required.
Experience with one or several of the measurement instruments mentioned above is an asset, as is knowledge related to synchrotron beamline components.
As a person you are patient, communicative, versatile, and interested in manual work and practical problem solving. You are also willing to learn and investigate new areas with focus on quality, accuracy, and efficiency.Very good skills in English, both oral and written, are required.
