The multidisciplinary research group is located at Science for Life Laboratory and consists of Ph.D. students, postdocs, and senior scientists within biology, biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacology, many with experience from the pharmaceutical industry.

Your mission
We are looking for a highly motivated and lab-experienced research engineer for the Helleday group. Your main task will be to plan and perform in vitro cell culture experiments in the laboratory to advance our understanding of drug mechanism of action. Your work will be very varied and will include, several molecular biology techniques including cell culture, PCR, western blotting, immunohistology staining techniques, fluorescence microscopy and image analysis.

In more detail, you will contribute to a further understanding of the role of DNA repair and metabolism proteins in cancer and characterise the mechanism of action of small molecules inhibiting these pathways focussing specifically on their effects at the mitochondria. You will support the clinical findings and development of small inhibitory compounds and further investigate biomarkers, combination treatments, and potential resistance mechanisms in disease.

This is a temporary position full-time for 10 months. 

Your profile
The following qualifications are required:

- A PhD in Cell Biology or/and Molecular Biology or Biotechnology complemented by at least 2 years of relevant postdoctoral experience, or a MSc degree with extensive research experience.
- Previous experience establishing disease models within oncology.
- Cell lab experience such as handling and culturing of various cells both blood and solid cancer cells.
-  Previous documented experience with standard cellular techniques, such as cellular viability/survival assays and molecular biology techniques, eg qPCR, cloning, viral transduction, transfections, CETSA, and western blotting are a requirement.
- Previous documented experience in fluorescent imaging techniques including immunofluorescence, fluorescent proteins, confocal and non-confocal high-content imaging, live cell imaging is a requirement.
- Expertise in quantitative image analysis with software such as ImageJ, CellProfiler and Columbus are a merit.
- Previous documented laboratory experience visible by publications.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Proven ability in providing technical guidance to others.
- Good organisation and time management skills.
- Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and GraphPad Prism.
