Context of the position
Linnaeus University was established on January 1, 2010, through the merger of Kalmar University and Växjö University. The university conducts teaching and research, mainly at campuses in Kalmar and Växjö, but also in other locations in the region of Småland. The announced Research associate position in Computer Science with specialization in Web and Mobile Technologies is located in Växjö, at the Department of Computer Science. It might require presence in the Kalmar campus from time to time as well. The Department of Computer Science is one of ten departments in the Faculty of Technology at Linnaeus University. The department has a solid and dynamic research environment with extensive international exchange. Around 15 PhD students, 3 professors and 10 associate professors are active in various research areas.
Job description
The content of the appointment is to consist mainly of research. The appointment should also offer good opportunities for pedagogical qualifying through teaching on different levels as well as other pedagogical qualifying, such as training in teaching and learning in higher education.
The research fellow´s tasks will include active involvement in externally funded project and the research group for web and mobile technologies. The group has close ties with the IT industry, and consists of two senior researchers as well as research assistants. Tasks will also include some teaching and other departmental tasks.
Requirements
Qualified to apply is a person who has defended his/her doctoral thesis, or in other way has acquired the equivalent scientific skills. Primarily applicants who have defended their doctoral thesis or in other way acquired the equivalent skills no more than seven years before the application deadline are to be considered. (HF chap 4, section 12 a). The PhD are in Computer Science, topics of relevance, such as agile engineering practices, architectures for web and mobile software or other relevant areas in the field. Experience on educational program development within software technologies field is also a very good merit.
The candidate for the position must possess the capacity to initiate and conduct research as well as teach within the described areas. Furthermore, interpersonal skills and flexibility are of great importance since the work will be carried out in a research group.
Assessment grounds
As part of the research work will be done in connection with the industrial partners a good knowledge of the software industry processes and prior working experience in the sector will be considered an advantage.
It is essential that the candidate is proficient in English. Knowledge of Swedish is considered an advantage.
In the overall assessment of an applicant's skills, particular significance will be attached to the applicant's potential to have a successful career as a teacher and researcher.
Appointment time
The research associate position is a full-time position. The appointment is initially for one year with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of four years.
