RESEARCH (MASTER THESIS/OR INTERNSHIP) - HOW CAN WE ATTRACT MORE CO-WORKERS TO BECOME LEADERS WITHIN HOME FURNISHING & RETAIL DESIGN?

WHO YOU ARE
We believe that you are someone who is foremost curious about people and behavior. You are a good listener and knows how and when to ask the right questions. As a self-lead talent, you like problem solving, to get the chance to research on complex topics and communicate/present that research in a simple way. This case/assignment does not necessary be connected to studies (exam, Master Thesis) it can also be connected to an internship. Also, while IKEA is a strongly value based company it’s preferable that your own values match the IKEA values.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Introduction to research/case:
One of IKEAs strongest employer value propositions is the ambition to let people grow and stay within company as long as possible. We see a talent in everyone, and we want to optimize strengths and capabilities. Therefore, we put a lot of work into our development talks and our internal succession. There are of course many ways to grow within IKEA but what unites is the willingness to take more responsibility along the way. And with taking more responsibility comes a certain ability to lead yourself. Leadership skills, to some extent, is actually a future need when it comes to IKEAs future talents at all levels and roles.

The research:
The aim of this research is connected to our talent sourcing, internal succession, views on leadership and our Home Furnishing & retail Design function (HF&RD). You will look into and gather relevant facts and messages regarding our HF&RD function and the attraction for and views on leadership. The intern should mainly gather knowledge inside of IKEA, reaching out to co-workers/specialists/leaders – at our stores and Service Office within IKEA Försäljnings AB (IKEA retail Sweden organization). You will organize your work in a clear structure and with excellent documented information sources.

The final deliverable – a well-organized knowledge bank – will provide a fact-based and inspirational resource for the HF&RD matrix, HF&RD functional managers and our Talent Sourcing and Recruitment team (People & Culture function). This should help and guide us in our future work – how we should work and perhaps adjust our message regarding leadership, revise our competence profiles and work structure. This work is addressed to both HF&RD and P&C (People & Culture).

This research can either be connected to a Master Thesis/studies or a regular internship.

A bit more about the HF&RD function:
The purpose of the function is to inspire and surprise visitors by presenting and communicating the IKEA home furnishing offer with strong visual impressions that exceed visitors’ expectations. They are accountable for the store layout, range presentation and store communication and hereby contributing to positioning the IKEA Brand as the leader in life at home.
