We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our Discovery Biology department at our dynamic R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden. As a lab-based Research Scientist in the Cell Bank SE team in you are part of Discovery Sciences in AstraZeneca's BioPharmaceuticals organization.
The Cell Bank team supports AstraZeneca projects globally across the therapeutic areas, including respiratory and inflammation (R&I) and cardiovascular and metabolism (CVRM), through provision of quality assured mammalian cells. In the role, you will enable science by culturing and banking a large variety of mammalian cells including immortalized cell lines and primary cells, register and track cells in databases and cell freezers, as well as deliver cells to local and global customers.
The Discovery Sciences organisation work within a vibrant scientific environment to support drug discovery - we push scientific advances in small molecules, oligonucleotides as well as other emerging therapeutic modalities, always with a view to providing medicines to improve patient care. The Discovery Biology Department of Discovery Sciences is responsible for the generation of novel reagents and assays to support projects in the drug discovery pipeline from target discovery all the way to clinical candidate.
What you'll do:
This is a lab-based role to culture, cryopreserve and quality control cells to support projects in all phases of the discovery process. The role also involves managing cell freezer storage, registration and tracking of cells in databases, and as well as provision of cells to local and global scientists. We see you as a person who enjoys collaboration and team working, has a strong delivery focus and is very structured and organized.
Essentials in the role:
* BSc/MSc in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or a related discipline
* Substantial experience in cell culturing and banking of a wide range of adherent and suspension mammalian immortalized cell lines and primary cells
* Highly skilled in culturing cells at plate-, flask- and multi-layer cell stack scale
* Knowledge in cell quality control techniques such as mycoplasma testing, STR fingerprinting and sterility testing
* Awareness of methods used to cryopreserve cells
* Expert in using cell databases for registration and accurate tracking of cells and human biological samples
* Independent analysis and evaluation of complex data and delivery of data to agreed timelines
Desirable in the role:
* Demonstrable experience in preparing cell lysates and membranes
* Experience in working with human biological samples
* Practical experience in working with iPSCs and stem cells
* Knowledge in cellular biology techniques used to develop of transient and/or stable cell lines
* Computer literate with experience of using databases, analytical packages and presenting data
* Ability to support a project manager and deliver to agreed deadlines.
