We now have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Cell Bank SE team in Gothenburg for 1 year as a Research Scientist. The Cell Bank is part of Discovery Sciences and AstraZeneca’s BioPharmaceuticals organization, and supports AstraZeneca projects globally across the therapeutic areas including, respiratory and inflammation (RIA), cardiovascular and metabolism (CVRM) through provision of quality assured mammalian cells. You will enabling science by culturing and banking of iPSCs and a large variety of other mammalian cells. The work will also include register and track cells in databases and cell freezers, as well as deliver cells to local and global customers. The role is primarily laboratory-based, however at times you will be required to work flexibly across the team to support other tasks.
As part of a team within the Discovery Sciences organisation, you will be working within a vibrant scientific environment to support drug discovery. We push scientific advances in small molecules, oligonucleotides as well as other emerging technologies, always with a view to providing medicines to improve patient care. The Discovery Biology Department of Discovery Sciences is responsible for the generation of novel reagents and assays to support projects in the drug discovery pipeline from target discovery all the way to clinical candidate.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a lab-based role to culture, cryopreserve and quality control cells to support projects in all phases of the discovery process, with a particular focus on stem cells. The role also involves managing cell freezer storage, registration and tracking of cells in databases, and as well as provision of cells to local and global scientists. We see you as a person who enjoys collaboration and team working, has a strong delivery focus and is very structured and organized.


ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
• BSC/MSC IN MOLECULAR BIOLOGY, BIOTECHNOLOGY, BIOCHEMISTRY OR A RELATED DISCIPLINE
• CELL BIOLOGY EXPERIENCE IS ESSENTIAL
• STRONG EXPERIENCE IN CELL CULTURING, INCLUDING HANDS ON EXPERIENCE OF BANKING IPSCS AND STEM CELLS
• HIGHLY SKILLED IN CULTURING CELLS AT PLATE-, FLASK- AND MULTI-LAYER CELL STACK SCALE
• SKILLED IN USING CELL DATABASES FOR REGISTRATION AND ACCURATE TRACKING OF CELLS
• INDEPENDENT ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION OF COMPLEX DATA AND DELIVERY OF DATA TO AGREED TIMELINES
• EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND AN ABILITY TO OPERATE EFFECTIVELY IN A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
• Differentiation and reprogramming of iPSCs
• Knowledge in cell quality control techniques
• Experience in working with human biological samples
• Computer literate with experience of using databases, analytical packages and presenting data
• Ability to support a project manager and deliver to agreed deadlines.
