Job Description We are now recruiting a biophysics research scientist to an assignment at the Structure and Biophysics section, Lead Generation Science at AstraZeneca, Mölndal.Preferred starting date is 10 January 2011 and duration of the position is 8 months. The Structure & Biophysics section is part of the Lead Generation Sciences department at AstraZeneca R&D Mölndal.Their task is to provide detailed information about ligand binding to drug targets using structural and biophysical approaches like X-ray crystallography, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) methods. This information is then used to guide the drug discovery process and help drive drug discovery projects. In early stages of drug discovery the typical focus is on the affinity of compounds for the target protein in order to establish structure-activity relationships and drive chemistry. There is increasing evidence in the literature that kinetic parameters, such drug residence time, are important determinants drug efficacy. They are currently running a project to establish robust methods to determine kinetic profiles for compounds in drug discovery projects. The position will consist of flexible and independent working with a number of biophysical techniques, primarily Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) and related techniques, to study protein-ligand interactions. Qualifications We are looking for a research scientist in biophysics with a minimum of a masters degree combined with work experience in relevant area.A solid background in biophysics with research experience gained either in an academic or industrial setting is strongly beneficial. The successful candidate are expected to have good general understanding of protein biochemistry and working knowledge of thermodynamics and kinetics of protein-ligand binding.Previous experience of Surface Plasmon Resonance and/or other biophysical techniques is highly advantageous. Experience of working within a large organization across a multidisciplinary setting will be viewed favourably. It is also important to be able to work flexibly across different biophysical sub-disciplines It is essential to have good social and communication skills and to be a strong team player.Candidates should be able to work independently, take own initiatives and have a positive, goal oriented and problem solving attitude.Good organization skills are required and you should be comfortable in presenting your results.Excellent english is required, both spoken and in writing. Please apply in English at www.proffice.se/lifescience Last application date is 29 November 2010.Please apply as soon as possible since we are continuously interviewing candidates.
