As a main group in Global R&D Filler Metals, Research Center has a key role in achieving successful product development. It is done through research, method and tool development, advanced analysis work, welding as well as pilot production.
The research team is a group within ESAB Research Center and is mainly focused on conducting research and developing methods and tools in order to acquire fundamental knowledge for a sustainable development. The team includes researchers with competence in areas such as welding metallurgy, physics, chemistry, welding processes and material mechanics.
We’re now looking for a Research Scientist within metallurgy and materials’ physics to work with us in research team. This is a great opportunity to shape your own role as well as a possibility to drive important changes with big positive impact for ESAB customers.
As a Research Scientist, Metallurgy and Materials’ Physics you:
Make significant and innovative contributions by initiating, managing and supporting research as well as method development projects
Contribute in developing long term know how through research within the area of applied welding, from raw materials to the final weldment and report the results in a clear and concise manner
Stay updated within your area of expertise and relevant methods and laboratory techniques
Work in close cooperation with other members of the research team as well as several stake holders within R&D filler metals
Analyse the reason to welding problems and suggest solutions
Evaluate, recommend and liaise with industry and academic collaborative groups engaged in the required areas of expertise for the Research Center

Who are you?
You have at least 5 years of documented experience in managing experimental research projects. We believe that you have a PhD or a Master degree in metallurgy, materials’ physics or closely related fields. You are highly skilled in corresponding experimental techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, X ray diffraction and spectroscopy. You are highly skilled in physical metallurgy, metals’ microstructures and crystallography. Broad knowledge on welding, mechanical properties and corresponding test methods is meriting.
You are a team player with strong collaboration skills. You are comfortable communicating within the research team as well as across the organization’s key stakeholders. You are open minded and innovative with strong driving force. You use analysis, evaluation, inference and deductive reasoning to process and resolve issues in a timely manner. You are proficient in both written and verbal communications in English and preferably in Swedish with ability to effectively interface with both internal and external customers.
The position is placed in Gothenburg, Sweden. Occasional traveling is required.
