Research Scientist- Single Crystal Neutron Diffraction D10+

Arbetsbeskrivning

The Diffraction group's mission
The ILL Diffraction group operates a large suite of powder and single crystal diffractometers to carry out collaborative research programmes in various areas of chemistry, physics, materials science and engineering. The ILL is inviting applications for an instrument scientist on the D10+ single crystal diffractometer.
D10+ is dedicated to the study of magnetic structures of single crystals and thin films and plays a key role in diverse scientific areas.

Your tasks
. Developing a research activity in magnetism in collaboration with the user community as part of a personal research programme
. Providing support to users for scientific experiments on the D10+ diffractometer but also on other single crystal diffractometers (D9, D3)
. Initiating development and maintenance work for the D10+ diffractometer
. Promoting the ILL single crystal programme and conducting teaching and training activities.

Your profile
. PhD in physics, chemistry or material sciences, or equivalent qualification together with an experience in neutron and/or X-ray magnetic scattering techniques.
. Practical skills in single crystal diffraction, an expertise in magnetic crystallography and knowledge of the group theory are essential for the post.
. Knowledge of polarized neutron scattering and programming languages (C++, Python, Fortran...) would be an asset.
. As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL).
