A permanent research specialist position is available in the research group directed by Professor Ivan Mijakovic. This job offers an opportunity to work on different projects involving biomedical and biotechnology applications of graphene-based materials. In addition to conducting basic and applied research within the area, the position will offer opportunities to work in an interdisciplinary and international research environment, collaborate with the private sector and engage in various aspects of innovation.

Job description
This position entails working as a research specialist in the Mijakovic research group. The principal responsibility of the research specialist will be to develop methods and perform research within the area of bio-applications of graphene-based materials. This will entail fictionalization of graphene for sensing applications and drug delivery, and quantitative assays with bacteria, cancer cell lines and plant cells.

The Mijakovic research group (https://www.sysbio.se/labs/mijakovic/) is situated within the Division of Systems and Synthetic Biology (SysBio), Department of Life Sciences, at the Chalmers University of Technology. Chalmers SysBio is a vibrant and productive scientific community, with 11 research groups and over 100 scientists working together on various projects ranging from human health to biosustainability.

Major responsibilities
The majority of time (80%) will be devoted to developing methods, conducting and publishing research results. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to co-supervise MSc and PhD students and postdoctoral fellows (10%). Finally, the research specialist will be expected to successfully apply for external research grants (10%).


Qualifications
PhD degree in biotechnology or nanotechnology.
5-6 years of postdoc experience.
- Experience with functionalization of graphene for sensing applications.
- Experience with functionalization of graphene for drug delivery.
- Experience with characterization of functionalized graphene materials.
- Experience with handling cancer cell lines, and testing anitcancer drugs.
- Experience with plant biotechnology, including methods for plant transformation.
- Experience with handling RNA sequencing data.
- Experience of working in an interdisciplinary team.
- Experience with projects involving industry and academia.
- Proven track record of obtaining research grants (total over 100 000 EUR) as a main applicant.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.

Contract terms
Full-time permanent employment.
