Research Specialist in Human Body Modelling for Vulnerable Road Users

Arbetsbeskrivning

Join Autoliv in Saving More Lives!

Autoliv Research is looking for a Research Specialist in Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) with a focus on Human Body Modelling for Vulnerable Road User Protection. Research at Autoliv is a global function, involving activities and colleagues world-wide, while run from Vårgårda in Sweden. You will be part of a team at the forefront of automotive and mobility research.

Assignment
As Simulation Research Specialist within the Autoliv research team you are defining needs, assessing and helping to industrialize the virtual tools needed to evaluate safety systems for Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs; i.e. motorcyclists, cyclists, pedestrians and other forms of new mobility) and ensuring their usefulness and proper use. You are expected to become the leading expert within Autoliv globally on the use of the SAFER Human Body Model (HBM) for VRU protection and to work in collaborative projects to develop the HBM at the whole-body and component level for kinematics and injury prediction.

You will also develop evaluation matrices (Design of Experiments) to define which simulations needs to be run and which HBM measures need to be evaluated to ensure real-world safety system effectiveness; thereby contributing to the development of repeatable and meaningful full-scale and component tests in hardware.

You will have several different interactions and collaborations. You will be working in close collaboration with the Biomechanics Specialist for VRU protection as well as the simulation team in Research and the Global Innovation Center. You will also collaborate with other research teams such as Accident Research, Test & Innovation, and Regulation & Rating as well as with the product development teams.

Your work typically leads to processes and procedures to evaluate VRU safety in simulation, identifying needs for model improvement and managing model changes, product ideas and associated patents, and test methods suitable for regulation and NCAPs.

Qualifications
You want to save more lives and work towards reducing traffic fatalities and injuries.

As a Specialist at Autoliv Research, you produce accurate results within a short time. You carry out thorough validation of your results to guarantee their accuracy. You document your work in reports and presentations and communicate your research internally as well as outside Autoliv such as to project partners, in working groups and at conferences. You typically author several scientific publications per year. You can work as an individual contributor and in cross-functional teams.

As a Specialist we expect you to guide and lead colleagues and supervise thesis workers. You develop expertise in new areas by yourself. You create, scope, and lead research projects involving multiple contributors, i.e. ensure that quality, time and budget plans are fulfilled.

On a formal level you have a PhD degree in Science or Engineering and a sound body of peer-reviewed publications. The position also requires you to have relevant work experience in CAE, preferably in LS-DYNA, including pre-processor and post-processor experience. Knowledge on MATLAB or similar software, anatomy, injuries and road traffic injury causes, human motion as a VRU and crash testing procedures is valuable.

The position requires you to be able to communicate fluently in English; additional language skills are a merit.

You will be located in Vårgårda and report to our Director Research.

About Autoliv
