Arbetsbeskrivning
The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 49 000 students and 6 400 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The Institute is composed of the following four departments:
• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
• The Department of Laboratory Medicine
At present, the institute has about 360 employees and approximately 440 million SEK in total assets.
At the Institute of Biomedicine we study the living cell – what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how cells interact with each other and with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, find new ways to diagnose disorders and to treat them.
Job assignments
The successful researcher will be part of the Glycobiology group headed by prof Göran Larson and is expected to independently work to develop different novel chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques to structurally characterize glycosaminoglycans, proteoglycans and xylosides. The methods should satisfy the needs of the research group and the collaborations in which it is involved.
This means that the successful candidate will take on responsibility to collaborate with members of the group, with partners within and outside of Gothenburg, and to validate and run with high quality both qualitative and quantitative analytical methods. The candidate is also expected to contribute to the conceptual development of the research group by literature- seminars, supervision of PhD-students and staff, and to deepen our national and international collaborations.
Qualifications
The most qualified applicant must have a PhD in a relevant subject and at least two years of experience of post-doctoral training in the field of glycobiology, preferentially focused on the structural and functional aspects of glycosaminoglycans, proteoglycans and xylosides. It is a strength if the applicant has established a network of mutual contacts with national and international collaborators within the field.
The successful candidate is expected to be able to communicate fluently in Swedish and English both in speech and in written text and to contribute substantially in the writing of publications, project grant proposals and other applications. A large emphasis will be put on personal character of the applicant and the ability to work independently but still contribute to the development of the research group.
Employment
The employment is limited (temporary) for 5 months and full-time with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
