Arbetsbeskrivning
The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 49 000 students and 6 400 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell – what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.
The Institute is composed of the following four departments:
• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
• The Department of Laboratory Medicine
At present, the institute has about 360 employees and approximately 440 million SEK in total assets.
We would like to recruit a researcher who can help us explore the functional role of long non-coding RNAs in tumor formation by understanding how lncRNA mediates their tumor-specific functions.
Job assignments
Highly motivated candidates with a strong technical experience in RNA biology and cell & molecular biology can apply for this position. Candidate will work on regulatory long noncoding RNAs that have been shortlisted using genome scale functional long noncoding RNA screens. Projects in the lab involve; 1) Characterization of mechanisms by which long noncoding RNA in the regulation of mitosis phase of the cell cycle, in particular chromosome segregation. 2) Exploring the functional role of long noncoding RNAs in cell differentiation programs and 3) Uncovering long noncoding RNA functions in tumor development and progression using selected cancer model systems. The selected candidate will work with primary tumors, tumor cell lines and mouse xenografts.
Qualifications
An achieved doctoral degree and the doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. The candidate should have strong experience in cell and molecular biology, experience in handing animal models, including xenograft models. In addition, the candidate should have extensive experience RNA related technology and this expertise would help in optimizing novel technologies that can address important questions such as how lncRNAs communicate with their target protein coding genes.
Employment
The employment is limited (temporary) for 6 months and full-time with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
