At the Institute of Biomedicine we study the living cell – what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of microorganisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat disorders. At present, the institute has about 360 employees and approximately 440 million SEK in total assets.
Job assignments
The successful applicant will lead and in an independent way develop a project aimed at characterizing the epigenetic role of DNA methylation and regulatory long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) in different forms of cancers. Responsibilities include PhD and postdoc supervision, teaching and administrative tasks.
Techniques and methods used in the group include culturing of mammalian cell lines, as well as biochemical and molecular biology methods. The successful candidate will analyze global epigenetic modifications such as DNA methylation, 5-hydroxymethylation and histone modifications using high-throughput sequencing approaches.
Qualifications
PhD within Life Science or Medicine is required. The candidate should have a solid scientific background, with a strong publication track record. Independent funding from major granting agencies is a strong merit. Documented experience in all abovementioned methods and tasks is a prerequisite. Experience in pyrosequencing is required. Experience in basic bioinformatics analysis of global datasets is considered advantageous.
The candidate should have documented leadership and teaching qualifications including student supervision and academic assignments. Prerequisites for the position is that the candidate displays strong personal motivation, and is fluent in English (both spoken and written). A major emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
Employment
The employment is full time and temporary, 11 months, with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
