Arbetsbeskrivning
The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 53 500 students and 6 500 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell – what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.
The Institute is composed of the following four departments:
• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
• The Department of Laboratory Medicine
At present, the institute has about 360 employees and approximately 450 million SEK in total assets.
Job assignments
Candidate will work on regulatory long noncoding RNAs that have been shortlisted using mitosis-based functional long noncoding RNA screens. The candidate will use RNA biology, cell and molecular biology techniques to understand the functional role of long noncoding RNAs in mitosis progression. The candidate will investigate the potential role of mitosis-specific long noncoding RNA in cancer development and progression using cancer cell lines and animal models. The selected candidate will also take the responsibility of maintaining cell room and controlling environment regulations in the lab.
The candidate will be performing extensive RNA Scope, live cell imaging and chromatin oligo immunoprecipitation (ChOP) and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) to understand the role of long noncoding RNA mitotic progression. The candidate will be culturing primary cells and cancer cell lines.
Qualifications
We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a strong technical experience in RNA biology and cell & molecular biology. To be eligible for employment as a researcher, applicants must have a PhD in molecular and cell biology. The prospective candidate is expected to have experience with cell-based assays with a focus on cell cycle progression and good experience in cell biology and molecular biology techniques. The candidates should have extensive experience RNA related technologies such as chromatin oligo immunoprecipitation (ChOP), RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP), RNA-ScopeTM, live cell imaging, Fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP), culturing of primary and cancer cells and also expertise in analyzing RNA-sequencing.
The candidate should have expertise in maintaining cell room routines and environment regulations in the lab. The applicant should be fluent in English both in written and spoken forms.
