The ambition of Packaging Materials division is to be a global leader in circular economy with our high-quality renewable packaging materials based on both virgin and recycled fiber. Addressing the needs of today’s eco-conscious consumers, we help customers and brand owners to find the best material for their packaging and to replace fossil-based materials with low carbon footprint, renewable and recyclable alternatives. A wide selection of barrier coatings enables the design and optimisation of packaging for various demanding consumer and industrial packaging end uses.
Stora Enso has more than 400 scientists working at research centres in Finland and Sweden as well as the Innovation Centres for packaging and biomaterials. Additionally, we have various cooperation agreements with Aalto University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Chalmers University, Rennovia Inc., Wallenberg Wood Science Centre and SweTree Technologies. We work with start-ups through our businesses and the Stora Enso Accelerator programme. We are also active in several national, European and trade associations focused on the bioeconomy and forestry agendas.
We are now looking for a results-oriented Researcher to join our Coating Technology Department at Research Centre Karlstad or Imatra. The unit belongs to the Innovation and R&D organisation within the Packaging Materials Division.
The position offers a good opportunity to further develop your skills and network while working in the fiber based packaging research frontier.
Tasks
Main responsibilities for this position are:
• Initiate, plan, lead, execute and report projects within the area of pigment coating and if needed dispersion barrier coating.
• Actively contribute as project member in projects within the area of pigment coating and if needed dispersion barrier coating.
• For your own projects, you will have the full responsibility to fulfil and deliver on agreed targets within agreed budget frames and scope definitions.
• Innovation is important and you are expected to actively contribute to idea generation
• Actively follow the development in mineral coating technology as well as in the related area surface treatment.
• Develop to be able to act as specialist in R&D related issues for the area within the Stora Enso organisation.
• Build and maintain a contact network within Stora Enso as well as with suppliers and academia.
• Deepen the knowledge base within the area coating and related sciences e.g. new innovative raw materials, polymers, colloidal chemistry and application technologies.
• Support the optimisation and development of products and processes for improved overall operational efficiency and product performance in our own and our customers’ value chain.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, we believe that you have minimum a Master of Science in relevant technology area or other education or experience that can be judged equal. Licentiate or PhD degree is considered a merit.
You preferably have a few years of pigment coating related work experience, including project management.
We are searching for a person with strong analytical as well as interpersonal skills who has the willingness to develop and maintain a strong network in Stora Enso and with external R&D providers. You have good ability to work in matrix organizations and to market and clearly communicate project results.
You have co-operative skills, as well as the ability to act as co-worker or leader of projects in collaboration with colleagues, both within and outside Stora Enso.
Proficient English, both written and spoken is needed. Swedish and/or Finish is considered a merit.
