Researcher Hydrogen Safety

Arbetsbeskrivning

Are you passionate about the safe use of hydrogen in energy applications? Do you possess a critical mind for risk assessment, analysing safety and interpreting legal requirements and standards? Do you have the ability to drive safety within a project, through reasoning and motivation both in speech and in writing? Do you have experience of hydrogen fuel cell systems, or high voltage electrical drivelines and systems including batteries? Then you might be the person we’re looking for!

Sweden is facing a gigantic transformation of the energy system, and in that transformation, RISE will play a big part.

Together with industry, academia, and the public sector, we develop competitive solutions and conditions that drive sustainable development forward. But we need to grow, and we need your help. Your help to find new solutions for a sustainable future, together. Do you want to join us? We hope so!

About us
At Energy Conversion we are working with research within the area of electrification, from components within batteries and fuel cells, to complete concept and application studies. When the societal challenges become more complex, a powerful innovation partner is needed to offer solid support and contribute with several perspectives. The Energy Conversion team performs customer adapted research and contributes with expertise and strategic advice, supporting the development of a sustainable system within targeted technical areas. We cooperate with large and small companies, research institutes, and universities around common challenges.

About the role
The focus of the position is hydrogen safety for both transport and stationary applications, including infrastructure and vehicles. As a researcher in our group, you will work with energy systems where hydrogen/fuel cells and batteries are included. You will work with research in the domain of hydrogen safety including writing reports and funding applications, and at times also with project management. Your work is important to support the safe transformation to sustainable energy sources. Our team is the research hub within RISE for electrification of transport including infrastructure, and you will complement our internal and external networks with your own unique competence and background.

We understand the importance of teamwork when it comes to developing new innovations, and we consider you and your unique competence to be an essential part in strengthening our ability to innovate and lead research and development within hydrogen fuel cell applications. While teamwork is essential you will also be expected to drive activities forward independently when necessary.

Who are you?
To become successful in the role we believe that you have a great interest and curiosity for hydrogen safety, and are structured, analytical, flexible, and dynamic. You have a critical mind when it comes to safety work and risk assessment, are not afraid to put safety first but contribute with innovative thinking to develop mitigating technical solutions. Furthermore, you have the ability of working both independently and in different teams. You work scientifically and dynamically in a structured manner while searching for solutions to complex questions, where you may also involve the team and other colleagues from across RISE.

You have a MSc or a PhD in an appropriate engineering or scientific domain, as well as related work experience preferably with hydrogen in a safety context, and different safety or risk analysis methods. It would be a merit to have at least 5 years work experience in relevant industrial sectors including work with hydrogen fuel cell systems or batteries and electric drivelines and systems. Earlier experience could also include risk assessment, fire safety or process industry engineering. Experience in the application or development of safety legislation and standards is an advantage. You have good communication skills in English and fluency in Swedish is desirable. Earlier experience of writing applications and participation in research or development projects is considered a merit.

Are we right for each other?
Within RISE we are convinced that diversity contributes to an innovative environment where we together challenge boundaries and develop new knowledge and competence for the future. We won’t promise you an easy job, but we can promise you an exciting journey where we contribute together to a safe and sustainable future.
