About the position
In this project we will thoroughly map and measure a variety of physiological stress indicators in fish. This will be done by analysing electroencephalography (EEG) and electrocardiogram (ECG) measurements in close collaboration with our industrial partners.

In addition to animal experiments, the tasks include project coordination, literature search, data compilation and writing a scientific publication in English.

Your profile
For this position you need to have:


• a PhD in biology or equivalent.
• formal and practical training in handling and killing fish.
• formal and practical experience in electrophysiological evaluations of fish.
• practical experience in histological examinations of fish hearts.
• good knowledge of Swedish and English, both in speech and writing. 

We are looking for a person who is creative with an open personality and good communication skills. If you have practical experience in image and text editing it is advantageous.

About us
The Department: The department has about 70 employees, primarily in the city of Skara, which is located in Sweden's most agricultural animal-dense area, as well as in Uppsala and Gothenburg. Agronomists, ethologists, veterinarians, biologists, ethics as well as technical and administrative staff work here. The department is responsible for SLU Götala beef and lamb meat research, located just outside Skara.

Research: The department is responsible for both basic and applied research in the areas animal environment and health, ethology, animal welfare, animal ethics, meat science, ruminant nutrition, agricultural economics and animal production systems. The research is carried out in collaboration with i.e. the agricultural industry, authorities and other universities within regional, national and international networks.

Education: The department educates students at the bachelor and master levels within biology, animal science, veterinary medicine and veterinary nursing programs. These programs include ethology and animal welfare, animals and sustainability, animal science, the veterinary program and the veterinary nursing program.

Location:
You will be employed by the Department of Animal Environment and Health (HMH) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, but the work will mainly be carried out at the Department of Biology and Environmental Science, University of Gothenburg in Gothenburg. The position will also involve some field work, mainly in the Nordic countries. 

From 1 January 2024 HMH will be part of a larger organization, but there is nothing that affects the duties and location of this position.

Form of employment:
Fixed-term employment 180 days, with the possibility of extension for another 180 days.
