We are looking for a researcher in biomedicine for a fixed-term position (1 year) at the School of Medicine.

Background
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death world-wide, accounting for approximately one third of all deaths globally. Atherosclerosis is the underlying process for most CVDs and is characterized by accumulation of cholesterol and activated immune cells in the arterial wall. The clinical presentations of atherosclerosis are diverse and comprise myocardial infarction, stroke, peripheral arterial disease etc. Vascular inflammation is a crucial component in the development of CVD and is currently evaluated as therapeutic target for cardiovascular disease.
This position is part of the Cardiovascular Research Center, (CVRC), a strong research environment focusing on cardiovascular diseases, such as arrhythmias, myocardial infarction and heart failure. The main aims of the research environment are to significantly strengthen the cardiovascular research through genuine translational research and collaboration between basic and clinical scientists at Örebro University and Örebro University Hospital, and to create unique multidisciplinary projects in the field of cardiovascular research.

Duties and responsibilities
In the current position the researcher will study cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying development of cardiovascular disease, with a special focus on inflammatory mediators. The researcher is expected to work independently, to take responsibility of the execution, organization, and development of the research project, to generate and document experimental results, and to report project progresses to the team leader regularly. The researcher should be experienced in scientific communication and are expected to supervise junior members of the group.
Qualifications
Those qualified for the appointment as a researcher are applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree.
Assessment criteria
The candidate should have a PhD in relevant area and a strong background in cardiovascular research. The candidate should have extensive experience in cell culture experiments and excellent skills in various cellular and molecular biology techniques. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to be able to work independently and should be fluent in written and spoken English.
A general basis for assessment is that the applicant is able to demonstrate the personal qualities required to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities at hand; that they are able to cooperate with other members of staff; and contribute to the development of university operations.
Information
This is a fixed-term full-time position for 12 months. At Örebro University, salary depends on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
