Researcher in chemistry

Arbetsbeskrivning

The School of Science and Technology is seeking a researcher in chemistry with focus on chemical analysis of PFAS and PACs for a permanent position at MTM Research Centre.

Subject area
The position is in chemistry.

Background
The Man Technology Environment Research Centre (MTM) at Örebro University focuses on applied research on chemical compounds of different origin in the environment and their relations to sustainable development.

Within MTM, we have established the Environmental Forensic (EnForce) Laboratory. It is a research effort funded by the Knowledge Foundation research profile program in collaboration with twelve partners from trade and industry. The main goal of EnForce is toxicant discovery and risk assessment in the PAC and PFAS groups. EnForce develops and applies advanced analytical methods including metabolomics, bioassay technologies, effect-directed analysis and hazard assessment of PACs, PFAS and microplastics.

Duties and responsibilities
We are seeking a researcher with more than three years of postdoctoral experience of chemical analysis of PFAS and PACs. The successful candidate will be responsible for development of spectroscopic, chromatographic, and mass spectrometric methods with particular focus on PFASs and PACs. Part of the work will also be on development of LC and GC-based effect-directed analysis (EDA) in close cooperation with toxicologists. Particular emphasis is on development and application of LC/MS-based effect-directed analysis for elucidation of drivers of toxicity in the PAC group. Responsibilities may also include general maintenance of advanced analytical instruments, supervision of students, teaching, and to communicate research results with researchers and industrial partners.

Eligibility
Those qualified for the appointment as a researcher are applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree.

Assessment criteria
Documented postdoctoral experience for a minimum of three years with PFAS- and PAC-analysis including development of analytical methods of such analytes in complex human and environmental matrices (soil, water, dust, sediment, biota) is a requirement. Documented knowledge and experience of LC- or GC-based effect-directed analysis (EDA) is a requirement. The successful candidate should be ambitious, analytically oriented, and have the ability to both co-operate and work independently. Proficiency in written and spoken English is a requirement. General assessment criteria include good interpersonal skills and an ability to cooperate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the duties well.

Information
The position is a full-time permanent position. The salary depends on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. Positions announced at Örebro University are, where appropriate, subject to a trial period.

For more information about the position, please contact assoc. prof. Anna Kärrman +46 19 30 14 01 (anna.karrman@oru.se). For information about EnForce and MTM, please visit www.oru.se/mtm or contact prof. Magnus Engwall +46 19 30 36 06 (magnus.engwall@oru.se).
