Arbetsbeskrivning
We are looking for a researcher in Computer Science for a fixed-term position at the School of Science and Technology.
Subject area
The subject area for this position is Computer Science.
Background
We are looking for a researcher to be based at Örebro University's Centre for Applied Autonomous Sensor Systems (AASS, www.oru.se/aass) who will carry out multi-disciplinary research at the intersection of robotics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, computer vision, computer science, and measurement technology. Our research in general is done in close partnership with world-leading corporations such as Volvo, Epiroc, Scania and Bosch, but also with the public sector; and our research on the development of AI systems for mobile robots is recognised world-wide.
Our aim with this new recruitment is to further strengthen the Center’s research competence within Computer Science, and in particular in topics related to the integration of automated planning, coordination and control for multi-robot systems. The focus for this position will be on systems composed of multiple robotic arms. The position provides the opportunity to work on an exciting and practically relevant problem, namely, automated planning for multiple-boom drill rigs in underground mining. Robotic platforms provided for carrying out the research include three Franka-Emika Panda robots. Access to an Epiroc Boomer platform will also be provided for limited testing.
Duties and responsibilities
Solid theoretical background in one or more of the following topics is required: automated planning and scheduling, robot motion planning, robot control, multi-agent/multi-robot systems, motion/trajectory planning, and the use of machine learning methods for efficient planning. The candidate shall be engaged in both research and integration work, and is expected to produce both scientific publications and project demonstrators. We therefore seek candidates with a strong expertise in system development, programming and use of current middleware for robotics, e.g., ROS; a proven track record in Robotics and/or AI (preferably in both); exceptional programming, systems development and integration capabilities.
The candidate will be required to work closely with our industrial partners (which include Epiroc, Zinkgruvan and the Alfred Nobel Science Park), engaging in problem elicitation and demonstration activities.
In addition to scientific publications, the candidate is expected to develop their own research direction and contribute to projects.
The candidate is expected to spend working hours mainly on research. The appointment may also include teaching, when there is a need within the organisation, in particular to facilitate the successful candidate to acquire qualifications for a teaching appointment at the University. The share of teaching may not exceed 20% of full-time.
Qualifications
Those qualified for the appointment as a researcher are applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree.
Assessment criteria
The assessment of the candidates is based on previous research and publication records and the suitability to the topics outlined above, as well as demonstrated programming and deployment skills.
Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken, is a requirement. It is, on the other hand, not necessary to be familiar with the Swedish language.
We welcome personal skills such as abilities to cooperate, ability to take initiative, as well as taking part in the research development of the lab.
A general basis for assessment is that the applicant is able to demonstrate the personal qualities required to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities at hand; that they are able to cooperate with other members of staff; and contribute to the development of university operations.
Information
This is a fixed-term full-time position for 12 months. At Örebro University, salary depends on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
