Arbetsbeskrivning
We are looking for a researcher in Computer Science with direction Cognitive Robotics for a permanent position at the School of Science and Technology.
Subject area
The subject area for this position is Computer Science.
Background
The researcher will work at the center for Applied Autonomous Sensor Systems (AASS) at Örebro University, in the context of the project “A Theory of Proactivity: a Step Toward Human-Centered AI” funded by Vetenskapsrådet and of the project AI4Europe funded by the EU Horizon Europe programme. AASS carries out multi-disciplinary research at the intersection of robotics and artificial intelligence. The goal of AASS in the above projects is to study proactivity in artificial intelligent agents, and to use the results of this study in the European AI-on-demand platform.
Duties and responsibilities
The researcher will contribute to the scientific development of the AASS center in general, and in particular to the performance of the work in the above projects by developing a theory, and the corresponding computational methods, that allows artificial systems to be proactive in a human-centered way. The research work must be integrated in the AI on-demand platform, and must be done in collaboration with other scientific partners in the AI4Europe project. The research work may also involve evaluation on physical robotic demonstrators interacting with humans.
The researcher shall spend their working hours mainly on research. The appointment may also include teaching when there is a need within the organization. The share of teaching may not exceed 20% of full time.
Qualifications
Those qualified for the appointment as a researcher are applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree.
Assessment criteria
A general basis for assessment is that the applicant is able to demonstrate the personal qualities required to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities at hand; that they are able to cooperate with other members of staff; and contribute to the development of university operations.
In addition to that, a solid theoretical background and a strong documented research record in Artificial Intelligence is required, specifically in knowledge-based methods like planning, goal reasoning, decision making, context awareness, human-AI collaboration, and fuzzy logic, since these methods form the core of the target research line. The successful candidate must also possess the ability to integrate the above methods and to apply them to robotic systems, in particular to social robots that interact with people. Fluency in written and spoken English is a must.
The researcher must have a demonstrated ability to work in, and strongly contribute to, international teams in the context of European projects, both in research roles and in management roles. Familiarity with the European AI research landscape and with the European AI on-demand platform (ai4europe.eu) are a strong plus.
