Researcher in Edge System Software (582462)

Arbetsbeskrivning

As the tech firm that created the mobile world, and with more than 54,000 patents to our name, we’ve made it our business to make a mark. When joining our team at Ericsson you are empowered to learn, lead and perform at your best, shaping the future of technology. This is a place where you're welcomed as your own perfectly unique self, and celebrated for the skills, talent, and perspective you bring to the team. Are you in?
Come, and be where it begins.

Our Exciting Opportunity
5G and the arrival of compute power in the mobile network will transform the telecom industry, where the line between the device, the edge of the network and the cloud will become blurred. Compute and storage will be deeply embedded in the mobile network, and everything can be hence viewed as a single unified, integrated execution environment for distributed applications, including both network functions and third-party applications. We call this the Network Compute Fabric.

In this work, you will investigate the challenges of building this distributed execution environment and the application development model needed to realize the Network Compute vision. You will focus on providing simplicity and performance, both for application developers and owners, as well as proposing and demonstrating advantages acquired by being embedded within the mobile network.

You will
Craft and steer novel concepts, solutions and algorithms within the Network Compute Fabric vision. With these innovations you also influence the cloud evolution towards natively supporting the requirements of the mobile network.
Be part of a diverse team of hardworking and creative researchers to craft research direction and collaboratively tackle technical challenges. Typically, our work is performed in projects that may incorporate internal and external research collaborations across international borders and sectors.
Take the opportunity to develop and present your results as prototypes and concept demonstrations, where we put emphasis on the quality and re-usability of the developed software components.
Record, document and plan your work using industry standard development tools.
Patent your innovations.
Disseminate and publish your research results, internally at Ericsson and at international conferences.
Report to your line manager.

To be successful in the role you must have
PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Telecommunications, Mathematics, or related technical fields
Solid background or hands-on experiences in at least one of the following fields:
Distributed cloud system software
Mobile network infrastructure
Emerging edge computing technologies
Software development experience in one or more programming languages (e.g. but not limited to: Python, Rust, go, C, C++, etc.) and experience using collaborative software development tools (e.g. GitHub or GitLab)
Strong analytical skills
Appetite for knowledge and the ability to practically apply it
Creativity and a sense of teamwork alongside being able to work independently when required
Good communication skills in written and spoken English

You might also have experience in:
Product delivery to stakeholders
Developing patents
Contributing to research communities, including conference papers and other research publications
Contributing to Open Source or leading Open Source projects
Establishing a personal network within academia and/or industry
