To strengthen Sweden as an education and research country, the Government is to upgrade Mälardalen University College to Mälardalen University from 1 January 2022.
At the School of Business, Society and Engineering our students are studying to be for example Bachelors or Masters of Engineering, political scientists and business administrators. Here we have the research specialisations of Industrial Engineering and Management, and Future Energy. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with companies, organisations and public authorities in the region.

Position description
The School of Business, Society and Engineering is looking for a researcher in energy and environmental engineering. The position involves working within the research specialization Future Energy Center (FEC). The work is part of the research activities conducted in experimental measurements in fluid mechanics and heat transfer under relevant ongoing projects at FEC. The research work focuses on designing and developing experimental fluid dynamics laboratory and more particularly on methods involving phase change processes e.g. boiling process, for cooling systems. The experimental results analysis is performed using advanced tools and particularly highly accurate image processing algorithms.
A large part of the work will be done at - or in close contact with - several partner organizations. The successful candidate is therefore expected to have a good engineering background with profound skills in experimental fluid mechanics and heat transfer including boiling processes and be able to interact effectively with partner research institutes, industry, colleagues and other stakeholders. The position may also include creating/teaching in courses related to energy and/or environmental engineering.
Qualification requirements
The applicant is required to have a PhD degree in Fluid Mechanics Engineering or Energy Engineering.
To qualify for the appointment as a researcher, you should have received a PhD and shown research and pedagogical skills within the subject area. The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English.

You are open-minded and interested in collaborating across borders within and outside MDH. Interest in and experience research as well as a post-doctoral or equivalent stay at an institution other than the one where your PhD was awarded are considered merits. Teamwork, leadership, organizational and entrepreneurial skills are advantages.
Further merits for the position are:
• Experience in experimental measurements in the field of fluid mechanics and heat transfer related to boiling process.
• Knowledge of, experience with, and interest in using and developing fluid mechanics laboratory and oversee various experiment.
• Base knowledge and strong interest to deepen your know-how in advanced cooling technologies in general with a special focus on two-phase cooling.
• Strong interest or experience in energy system modelling.
• Strong interest or experience on high-speed camera visualization and image processing algorithms with analysis tools such as Python and/or Matlab.
• Strong interest or experience on infrared visualization.
• Experience in teaching at the university level in energy engineering and/or mechanical engineering.
• Ability to collaborate with other researchers as well as work independently.
• Curious, goal-oriented, flexible, ambitious, and communicative personality.
• Interest in developing methods and bringing them into different application areas.
• Experience and interest in interaction with various international partner organizations and professional management and cooperation, including representing MDH at project meetings abroad.
• Able to understand science and technology trends and contribute to our strategy build-up.
A substantial part of the research conducted at MDH is externally funded. Experience from coordinating applications for, and working in, externally-funded projects is therefore of high merit. You should have a good number of peer-reviewed articles within the stated areas published at leading conferences and highly-ranked international peer-reviewed journals.
