We are looking for a researcher in Systems Medicine for a fixed-term position at the School of Medical Sciences.

Subject area

The subject area for this position is Systems Medicine.

Background

In an ongoing project funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR dia. No. 2018-02629), “Blood-based metabolomics to predict severity and patient outcomes in traumatic brain injury (meTBI)”, large-scale metabolomics study has been performed in collaboration with European CENTER-TBI consortium. These data are currently being analyzed, and first publications have already been prepared and several more are being planned. The key focus of the project is to identify metabolic signatures of traumatic brain signature, and relate them to clinical phenotypes and outcomes as well as other relevant medical data including neuroimaging.

Duties and responsibilities

The researcher will be primarily in charge of metabolomics studies in TBI, including metabolomics data processing, metabolite identification, and data analysis. Research will also involve integration of data across multiple modalities (e.g., metabolome, proteome, genetics, neuroimaging). The successful candidate will also be involved in preparation of the research manuscripts, including as lead author.

Qualifications

Those qualified for the appointment as a researcher are applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree.

Assessment criteria

A basis for the assessment is the applicant’s ability to disseminate information and communicate; collaborate and engage with the wider community; and facilitate utilisation of the university’s research; as well as the ability and suitability to cooperate with other members of staff and contribute to the development of university operations.

Particular attention is to be paid to the applicant’s prospects of contributing to the future development of both research and education. Importance is also attached to a demonstrated ability and ambition to embark on a career within academia.  

Successful applicant will have a strong background in systems medicine and related fields such as clinical data mining, bioinformatics, and systems biology.

Good oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory. General assessment criteria include good interpersonal skills and an ability to cooperate in an interdisciplinary environment and be able to work in a team. A demonstrated ability and desire to pursue an academic career is also of importance

Information

This is a fixed-term full-time position for 2 months. At Örebro University, salary depends on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
