Researcher in Materials and Manufacturing – Surface Technology

Arbetsbeskrivning

The School of Engineering is one of four schools within Jönköping University. We offer attractive technical education at undergraduate and graduate levels and conduct advanced research in several technological areas. The School of Engineering is able to award doctorates in the area of industrial product realization. We collaborate with the surrounding society to develop new technology and spread knowledge to strengthen the competitiveness of companies. Working with us, you are close to colleagues in an international environment with great opportunities to influence and develop.

The department of Materials and Manufacturing today consists of about 40 researchers and PhD students with a background in material science, chemistry, mechanics and physics.

The research is interdisciplinary and includes the whole chain from casting and coating process and material properties to materials science as well as modelling and simulation. There are four main research areas that work closely: Al and other light alloys, cast iron, surface technology and simulation and optimisation technology. They form a cutting edge research group at Jönköping University and School of Engineering and have a well-equipped experimental lab for both manufacturing processes and materials characterisation. Besides their fundamental research requirements, most of our research projects are industrial oriented and involve high-tech industrial partners.

We are now looking for a Researcher to join our highly qualified team, do not hesitate to apply!

Working tasks
You will work in the surface technology research group. You have a backround as a researcher in corrosion and surface technology with main focus on electrochemical treatments of surfaces. As a researcher in this group you will be dealing with:

- electrodeposition of nanocomposite coatings;
- electrochemical surface treatments;
- corrosion protection of light alloys;
- corrosion science of light alloys;

The work also consists of teaching to a minor degree in the area of corrosion and surface technology and materials science. You will be in close cooperation with industrial partners in projects.

Typical tasks could cover:

- samples preparation;
- lab set-up and experimental design for electrochemical treatments;
- microstructural characterization;
- electrochemical tests;
- student supervision;
- lab activities coordination.

It is expected of you to support the group activities and promote good cooperation and climate in the group.

Qualifications
It is required that you have been awarded a Degree of Doctor in either of the following- or in an equivalent field; materials engineering, mechanical engineering or chemical engineering.

As a possible candidate you should also show research maturity. You should have scientific and experimental competence in the field of electrochemistry, electrochemical testing, microstructural analyses, coating process technology and surface characterization.

We expect that you have a genuine interest and curiosity in the subject and ability to work both independently and in teams. Furthermore, you should have a flexible work approach, be resilient to external stresses and be able to manage multiple work tasks simultaneously. Due to our international working environment, you need to be proficient in English, both in writing and orally; competence in the Swedish language is meritorious, as well as:

The position is a permanent, full-time employment and starts October 1, 2020 or as agreed upon.

Application
Welcome with your application, no later than 2020-04-26.

The application must include:

- motivation letter explaining your future research interests
- CV and 2 reference
- attested certificates and diploma;
- publication list; at least 5 academic articles in journals
- pedagogical portfolio if previous teaching experience

We kindly decline all sales and marketing contacts.
