The research activities within the Department of Biology and Environmental Science include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology. The research project involves investigating the microbiology of Baltic Sea sediments in relation to climate change and fluxes of greenhouse gases. It will involve fieldwork including sampling of sediment cores, extraction of nucleic acids and preparation for high throughput sequencing, and bioinformatic analyses of the resulting data.
General requirements
To be qualified for the appointment, the candidate should possess a PhD in environmental microbiology/microbial ecology.
Specific requirements refer to
Experience of environmental microbiology and explicitly sampling for ‘omics’ analyses and analysis of the resulting data. The applicant must also have high proficiency in written and spoken English.
Assessment grounds
• Experience of writing scientific articles is desired.
• Documented experience in Baltic Sea/marine sediment microbiology including fieldwork.
• Have the ability to work independently as well as interact well in a research group.
• B-drivers license.
• We attach great importance to personal suitability.
Terms of employment
Employment and scope: 100 %, for three months with eventual possibility for an extension. The employment is scheduled to start mid-October 2022.
Placement city: Kalmar, Sweden.
