Researcher in Mitochondrial Biogenesis

Researcher in Mitochondrial Biogenesis

Arbetsbeskrivning

The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 49 000 students and 6 400 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell – what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.

The Institute is composed of the following four departments:

• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
• The Department of Laboratory Medicine

At present, the institute has about 360 employees and approximately 440 million SEK in total assets.

We are currently seeking a highly talented, innovative and results-driven researcher for a researcher position in Mitochondrial Biogenesis in the Martin Ott laboratory at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Institute of Biomedicine at the Göteborg University, Sweden

Job assignments
The research will focus on the characterization of mitochondrial ribosomes using structural, biochemical and other molecular methods. The candidate is encouraged and expected to work independently and to contribute to project planning. The candidate is also expected to contribute to the laboratory's other work, as well as to supervise students at both master's and doctoral level, if necessary.

Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate who has a great interest in molecular biology. A suitable candidate has a doctorate in biology/chemistry or related fields (for example, structural biology, biochemistry or biophysics). Experience of working with yeast mitochondria is a requirement. A background in biochemistry as well as experience in cloning, cell culture (preferably in eukaryotic systems) and protein purification is a merit. We are particularly searching for a researcher with extensive experience from postdoctoral studies, as this position will represent an important resource of knowledge for the group. We value good communication skills and scientific integrity. The candidate needs to be careful, responsible and be able to work both independently and in groups. Good knowledge of English, both written and spoken, is necessary. We value greatly personal integrity.

Employment
The employment is a full time permanent position, placed at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed. Probationary employment could be applied.
