Welcome to Linnaeus University
Where knowledge grows.
We are an international university in Småland, Sweden. Together we set knowledge in motion for a sustainable societal development.
The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as disease ecology.
Work description
The researcher is part of the research group Marine Plankton Ecology and Applications and the multidisciplinary project ALGOLAND, which aims to develop biological solutions to address major societal challenges such as climate change, eutrophication and food/feed production in the Baltic Sea region. Microalgae are used to clean industrial waste streams, such as flue gas or process water and the biomass evaluated as animal feed supplement. The project is a close collaboration between academia and industry and has competence within biology, ecology, environmental science, sustainable development and economy.
We seek a highly motivated researcher with a strong background in phytoplankton ecology, microbiology or industrial ecology. The work involves exploring nutrient and CO2 recovery using aquaculture applications, algal technology and microbial processes in natural aquatic ecosystems and bioreactors. It will also include evaluation of mussel and algal biomass application usage and optimizing biotechnological solutions to reach sustainable processes and production chains.
The research will be conducted in collaboration with other scientist within the Centre for Ecology and Evolution in Microbial model Systems (EEMiS) within Linnaeus University that comprises expertise in ecology, evolution, and microbiology.
The position is 9 months full time and located in Kalmar.
