Come, and be where it begins.

Our Exciting Opportunity

We are looking for a researcher in the area of point cloud compression.
An ever-increasing number of point clouds are collected to represent 3D spaces. For this purpose, dedicated sensors such as LIDARs or other depth-sensing cameras are used or alternatively, they are generated from photogrammetry. The use of the resulting point clouds varies from providing spatial awareness of moving objects and vehicles or head-mounted displays to being elements of digital twins of many types of locations. Consequently, there is a wide range of types of point clouds with varying properties and densities. The increased use of these data-heavy point clouds results in substantial amounts of data that will require efficient representation and compression to allow their wide utilization in many practical applications.
The combination of Ericsson’s long experience in audio visual-compression technology (through, e.g., our contributions to all recent MPEG video compression standards and all 3GPP conversational audio compression standards) and the experience Ericsson has dealing with sophisticated industry infrastructure for mobile networks put us in a unique position to contribute in this emerging field.
